Burham were hoping to reproduce
the form shown in the last round of this cup when they knocked out higher
league opposition. The game started brightly, but with only six minutes played,
the game was stopped for 45 minutes after a Langley player went down and needed
assistance from a Paramedic. Once play resumed, Burham looked to take advantage
of the extra man, both Dan Rowe and Ian Jones were booked early on, but Burham
went in at half time one goal in the lead, courtesy of Andy Hunter. Burham completely dominated the second half, Ben Hughes produced a great performance in the centre
of midfield. Barry Hill and Callum Riglesford continued
causing problems down both wings, and it paid off when Callum
Riglesford carved out his second assist of the day to
supply Andy Hunter with his second. The game was fairly safe, but both teams
knew the next goal could change the mood, players were getting nervous and Ian
Jones picked up another yellow and was sent from the field of play. Fortunately for him the next goal went Burham’s way, Barry Hill chased a
seemingly lost ball and pulled it back to Andy Hunter on the edge of the box
who calmly smashed home to complete his first Hatrick
for the club. Burham were enjoying
themselves, and saw the game out to win 3 - 0 three nil, with Ross Miller
finally earning his and the Reserves well deserved first Clean sheet. Burham were into the quarter final.

After Burham’s
first consecutive defeats in their previous two games, they knew a win was vital
to get back on track. It wasn’t going to plan when in the first minute Wateringbury took the lead with a good goal from outside
the box. It turned out to be the only chance they created that half, with
Burham laying siege to the oppositions goal.
It looked as though it was Deja Vu from last
week, as again the strikers failed to finish off some good moves with a goal.
The second half started with Burham still trailing by a single goal, and it
continued much the same as the first half. With about twenty minutes to go,
Barry Hill took the ball on the half way line, raced on and skipped passed the
last defender into the area, and dragged the ball back to the edge of the box
where Andy Hunter stroked home the equaliser. There was relief all around, and
a feeling that the flood-gates would open. Within 30 seconds Callum Riglesford took a quick
throw in over the defenders heads which Dean Walker used his strength to power
through and score Burham’s second. Burham were
rampant and enjoying them selves, Ian Jones was running the mid-field and had
the game in control. Another great through ball by Barry Hill saw Andy Hunter
race through and smash a half volley home to make the game safe. By now, the strikers were confident, and
possibly the best move of the game was a great cross by Andy Hunter met by Dean
Walker on the edge of the box with a thumping unstoppable volley into the far
corner. Burham had found their feet
again and got back to winning ways, but the score line changed when Dan Rowe
conceded a penalty which was converted with the last kick of the game.

After the impressive win over 1st
division opposition last week, Burham were confident going into this game, but
knew it was not going to be easy against the league leaders. Burham started brightly, looked solid at the
back and were creating chances at the other end. Their hard work paid off when
Tim Brett beat the right back to a loose ball and placed a great ball into the
area for a simple tap in by top scorer Andy Hunter. Burham continued to press for the killer
second goal, but the away keeper made several great saves to keep Marden in the game.
Burham were made to pay for missed chances when Marden
equalised, and suddenly gained a bit of confidence. Burham responded well and looked the more
likely team to score a winner, but with about ten minutes to go, Marden took a shot from outside the box, that looped over
Ross Miller and into the far corner.
Burham battled hard and tried and tried, but the ball simply would not
go in. The score remained 2-1 to Marden, but Burham
certainly did not deserve to lose this game.

Graham Shirley was again forced
to make changes to the team due to absentees and the suspension of Ben
Rogers. He could however, call on Barry
Hill after three weeks out with an ankle injury. Burham knew it was going to be a tough game
against 1st Division opposition, but after two great wins,
confidence and belief were at a high. Burham started brightly, and were
creating chance after chance, and were most definitely the better team. Daniel
Rowe stepped in at Centre back in the absence of Ben Rogers, and showed how
versatile he is with an outstanding performance along side the ever reliable
Trevor Jarret.
Aaron Dean moved into Central Midfield with Ian Jones, and this new
partnership controlled the game, carving the opposition defence with countless
through balls. Burham deserved the 2-1
lead at half time thanks to goals from Andy Hunter (now scored 6 in 5) and Callum Riglesford, with both
goals set-up by Tim Horn. The opposition
goal came after Stewart Nicol, had tripped the
opposition in the box, and the penalty was put beyond Ross Miller, who really
did deserve his, and the teams first clean sheet. It will come. The second half continued much
the same, but Burham could not get that killer third goal. With time pressing on, both teams knew the
next goal could decide the match, but with about 15 minutes left, Man of the Match
Aaron Dean threaded a great ball through to Barry Hill to run onto and beat the
last man and stroke the ball beyond the keeper into the bottom corner. Burham
looked solid at the back all game and continued to the final whistle and saw
the game out.

Graham Shirley was forced to make
changes to the team that did so well last week, due to injuries to Barry Hill
and Kushal Vadhia, and the absence
of last weeks Man of the Match Nick Hill. He could however, welcome back Dean
Walker and Tim Brett from long injury lay-offs, and Aaron Dean. With renewed belief and confidence, Burham
continued with their return to form, and again showed they can play some great
football and score plenty of goals. The
first half was tight, but Burham led 2-1, thanks to goals from Andy Hunter and
Dan Rowe, both goals set-up by Callum Riglesford. The
second half was much the same to begin with, but Burham settled first and took
control of the game, both teams new the next goal was critical, and second half
sub Dean Walker provided a great cross for Andy Hunter to hit his second of the
game, Burham led 3-1 and Exel’s heads dropped. Another two goals from Dan Rowe and Dean
Walker respectively completed the rout and a fantastic performance and result
for the Reserves.

After a disappointing start to the
season, Burham looked to get back to winning ways against one of the other new
teams in this division “County Town”. They were hoping that the introduction of
a co-manager would help get the organisation and discipline back which would
improve their season. Burham dominated
the game from start to finish and could easily have had more than four, but
after only scoring one in the league prior to this game, they will be more than
happy with it. Burham were very threatening, and creating chance after chance,
with all attacking players looking hungry. Andy hunter scored another two
goals, and once again showed what a natural finisher he is. The team played
well as a unit, worked hard for each other and the defence looked very
comfortable. Had it not been for a last minute goal, Burham would have got that
first clean sheet, they so desperately want and deserve. Nick Hill was making his league debut at
right back, and after an early injury on Barry Hill, he had to work twice as
hard on the right to cover his brother, his outstanding performance was more
than worthy of Man of the Match.

Burham were without their
influential skipper Ian Jones in the centre of Mid-field due to suspension, and
it showed quite clearly how much they rely on his experience. They did not seem
comfortable on the ball, and the home team took full advantage. Burham did have
spells of good football, but couldn’t create any clear cut chances. This new team will need to regain their
confidence and get back to scoring goals as frequent as they did in pre-season
if they are to make an impact on this league. It was a tough choice between
Trevor Jarrett, and Ross Miller for Man of the Match. Without those two Burham
could easily have been beaten by more.
Barry Hill is stepping aside as manager on match days, and assistant
manager – Graham Shirley will take charge of games, which should help the team
find the discipline and leadership needed to regain the winning streak shown in
pre-season.

After conceding an early goal from
a long through ball, Burham got hold of the game and took control. They
dominated play and had the majority of possession but could not find that
finishing touch to some great football. Things looked to be getting worse when
substitute Russel Norris broke his ankle after being
on the pitch barely 2 minutes. But with about five minutes left Ben Rogers
pushed up from the back to search for an equaliser, and after being fouled, the
ref played advantage and man of the match Andy Hunter latched on to the loose
ball and lashed the ball home. The scored remained one each to earn Burham a
well deserved point.
